and an old one.

Has the recent purchase of The London Evening Standard given its contributors and editors carte blanche to dump its previous owner The Daily Mail Group in the shit?
Emma Duncan (deputy editor of The Economist) writes in today’s London Evening Standard about the BBC and the DEC Gaza appeal.
My belief that Mr Thompson was right is strengthened by reports that the BBC has had 10,000 complaints. I’m pretty sure this isn’t because 10,000 cross individuals have rung or written off their own bat. I’m fairly certain that you need an organised campaign to get that sort of tidal wave of emails and phone calls.
Hmmm..
From the Daily Mail (19th November 2008):
The corporation has now received more than 42,000 complaints over the foul messages left for Mr Sachs by Ross, 47 and 33-year-old Brand.”

“I didn’t avoid paying the TV licence on my second home in the Cotswolds for this type of material! Convert BBC3 to BBCVivaldi, BBCElgar or BBCClassicJimDavidson or abolish the damn thing altogether!”
And do it damn soon! Before my exclamation-mark key wears out!”
Hmmm, well I got that off my chest – Just a little warm-up so I can post a new version of a bad-taste image I first created several years ago and link again to my blue blog, where Blue Blue D’Or will be publishing material which ought never to have been seen (and sometimes hasn’t) on our television screens. This purely in the interests of exposing the depths to which our nation’s broadcasters have sunk (or are about to sink).
We MUST! rise up! We must write to our newspapers! We must campaign to have a ‘complain to OFCOM’ button added to our remote controls. (© Charlie Brooker)

Concerned about censorship by the Daily Mail and the likes of Peter Whittle at CentreRight, I thought it best to help disseminate some of the material they may think unacceptable, purely in the interests of research.
It took a while to think up the name for the blog, but I finally decided on a title which would be descriptive and therefore serve as a warning for those of a nervous disposition.
You can see the first two posts on Princess Diana and Margaret Thatcher here on my new site Blue Blog.

UPDATE : I must admit there has been quite a debate on the Tory website, some disgusted (or feigning disgust) about a joke about the Queen, some for essentially continuing an attack on the BBC post Brand&Ross and others arguing vociferously against it. One or two seem to be harking back to the good old days. I don’t think it will be long before someone demands the return to black and white and 405 lines.
…as far as Russell Brand and Jonathan Ross are concerned.

As Chicken Yoghurt says, “Are you really telling me that the Justice Secretary’s ghost writer has nothing better to do than this?”

Jonathan Ross makes me reach for the off switch – and the scotch. But not, perhaps, for much longer”
