Redragtoabull.com gets headlines – then closes

The site redragtoabull.com (creators – Jimmy Cauty, Jamie Reid and Billy Childish) seems to be taking a break, just a few days after a fair bit of press coverage of its existence/launch.
here, here and here.
A quick search indicates it started up about ten days ago.

The site’s supposed raison d’ĂȘtre was the “…highlighting and exploiting some tension between the street art camp and the mainstream art camp re copyright theft… both camps being guilty of moaning and gross self-importance…” and stated boldly, “we urgently need your help – click on the following image to find out how and why” (see what I did there – boldly…)

The latest from the site reads, “THANKYOU and GOODBYE
On Wednesday 18th Feb at 11am Cartrain will collect his compensation cheque from the L-13 Light Industrial Workshop in Clerkenwell. After that we will draw this project to a close to make way for new and better ideas……….Thanks to all of you who sent in artworks with more fevered opinions about this, but for the sake of clarity we will save them for another occasion.”

So, was it a genuine attempt to have a go at the corporate world and copyright (inc. Damien Hirst) or a self-serving publicity stunt?
I don’t do have a clue, but and I wouldn’t trust the ‘collective’ any more than I would a statement on torture from David Milliband.
Seems that even a vat of Viagra was never going to keep this charade up for very long.
Could Hirst have been involved in the thing from the very start?
