New images/animations coming soon. Apologies for the extended break which was due to a relapse of an acute imbibingitus condition which I am prone to. (Guinness mainly)
In the meantime,
Also, here’s a plug for the ‘But Is It Art’ exhibition at Shrewsbury International Cartoon Festival - 18th-20th April 2008.
The link is to the Procartoonist website which provides a bit of a preview and a link to the official site.
Update - Just to say that, as far as I know, it will be some months before the Crown and Goose closes.
Excuse the local and personal nature of this post.
A real shame - it seems it’s the end for The Crown and Goose.
A Ten minutes walk to this pub normally results in a thirty minute return journey for me along the same route (after a few pints of Guinness).
The pub has been fighting to stay open for years but it looks like it has finally lost its battle with developers whose representatives seem to be making something of the badly needed accommodation the site will provide :
“If you look at the sites in central London where there is a need for more housing, this is one that I think is ripe for development.
“Ten new flats will come from this. The buildings that are there do not have much architectural merit – they are not listed.”
Source Camden New Journal
Hmmm - Ten flats in a rather well-to-do area of Camden. This will surely help vital inner city workers in their quest to find accommodation close to the services which Camden residents so desperately need.
Celebrity-ville, despite the reputation, the Crown and Goose was not. Although there may have been frequent visits by certain members of music’s finest, the Goose is a place that the odd celeb managed a relatively normal drink with his or her mates, without being disturbed.
The true celebs, with all due respect to those one might notice in the street are the owner, manager and staff of the establishment.
Joe, who runs two other pubs in the area, Spencer, formerly of the Royal Navy and have-a-go hero, and, in no particular order :
Scarlett, designer - Who put up with my put-downs and had the most effective deterrent, spraying me with her perfume, ensuring my rapid departure.
Maria and Mats - two of the Danish Mafia. One a graphic artist and the other an accomplished rock photographer.
Stuart - Actor and star of Daz commercials, last performing in the Phantom Of The Opera and a couple of years ago being crucified in Morocco while working on a biblical film.
Lone - Another member of The Crown and Goose Danish mafia and chanteuse with the up and coming band The Dead Pixels. Click on ‘When The Lights Go Out’ in the music panel for some excellent retro pop.
Here’s an older video from them:
Dashing Tim Daish - Actor and chick magnet.
Matt - Deputy Manager and an expert on music copyright.
Tamara - Another talented singer.
Owen - Welsh and not a rugby man, mature student serving immature customers.
Jackson - Chef.
Martin - Chef
Helen and Maddie, long suffering waitresses who drag the smokers back in after the glass curfew.
Jack, barstaff may moons ago.
Kirsty - who I gave one of my Asboslut T-Shirts to, hoping it might be seen and sales would go up.
She subsequently told me that she only wears it in bed which means it’s had quite an audience.
Emma and Amanda. Nik Hollis - Guitarist extraordinaire, currently playing with the Francis Rodino band.
And finally, a shout-out for a one-time regular visitor - Gary Bleasdale.
One night, Gary, a Liverpudlian asked some blokes if they were trying to impersonate him when they started doing the old ‘awright, awright’ Scouser accents from the Harry Enfield show.
They replied that they weren’t dissing him or Liverpudlians.
‘I wasn’t accusing anyone’ said Gary, ‘I just wondered if you were trying to impersonate me.’ and then proceeded to do a much better ‘Scouser’ act than any of them.
But Gary had a little bit more experience under his belt - He’s the Everton supporter in this clip.
If you’re still in London, Gary, time for a beer - send me an email - details on the contact page.
Update :
I’ve noticed a clothing retailer visiting here. It would be very unfortunate if anyone tried to make money out of this - I’m not and am not intending to either.
I”d hope for a strong response from many sites if someone tried to make money out of the issue.
I have tweaked the image slightly and created a larger version for those who have asked. Click on the image for the large version.
I’ve also removed my tag from the large version - it distracts from the piece.
It wasn’t just Halliburton that did well from the war in Iraq.
While bodies were being flown home, The Blairs were working out how to make and spend their profits.
