Blair Prestwick Lebanon Israel USA

Tony Blair in Beirut :

And I would also like to express my deep sympathy for you and for your country and for all those who lost members of their family, those that they loved, those that they knew during the recent crisis - People I helped to maim and kill by allowing US munitions to pass through the U.K., applying no pressure whatsoever to cease the hostilities and easily suppressing the lily-livered members of my cabinet who considered dissenting from the wishes of The U.S. Government.

I don’t know if he read the last part out…

Who decides how long to be silent for ?

Madrid - 5 minutes, Tsunami 3 minutes, 9/11 got 3 minutes in the UK whereas the London bombings only got two minutes.

This is soon going to catch up with us. You won’t be able to get to work for stoppages and silences.

Terrorists will set off a bomb and we’ll call a silence so quickly, the bombers will waltz around thousands of static figures to make good their escape.

Maybe we’ll eventually be rooted to the spot, a nation of garden gnomes scattered all over the metropolis, scared shitless to say anything, hoping the gas from last night’s curry can be expelled without incident as all the silences run into each other.

And when the UK is renamed Land Of The Mutes, we’ll decide that we should show respect by having a minute’s noise for catastrophes.
Eventually these will be increased as the silences were, the frequency will increase and we’ll be back to normal.
Then the cycle will start all over again.

In June, Clarke was praising Brown which prompted this picture.

After this, it now seems appropriate to make a minor amendment.

You're a right Charlie Brown

No apologies for another Downing Street sign.
Seems to work on at least a couple of levels - the soap opera angle and the potential coronation of a new PM.
