james purnell welfare reforms

After 20 odd years of working, I became one of the long-term unemployed - I was overqualified or too old for most jobs that were available, I therefore reckon I’m (over) qualified to say that the man is a dickhead, living in his poisonous little Westminster bubble.
I’ve been off the dole for well over a year but will always remember what it was like.

EDIT - I thought the time is ripe for this to make another outing:

Gordon Brown revolt

Just as an aside - There was once a time when you had to take three jobs found on the Jobcentre database to the desk when you signed on. If you didn’t there could be harsh penalties.
1. The advisers simply did not have enough time to check out all the jobs for their clients - The policy soon became redundant.
2. The one time I was asked for the job slips, I only had 2 but I had a recruitment ad from a newspaper to make the total of three.
Not good enough. I needed three from the Jobcentre database - Other jobs didn’t count.
I was let off after pointing out that the advert I had brought in was for the position of marketing manager for Job Centre Plus.
It seems that Job Centre Plus were not prepared to recruit from the large pool of qualified unemployed workers.
