Northern Rock shareholders should get down on their bended knees and thank the tax payer for keeping their (yes, those shareholders own some part of the company) company going ! If the bank of England had not stepped in- Northern Rock would be dead and it is the shareholders’ fault for electing (yes, they do that also) such an incompetent management team.
