Guido, Eton and (nearly) 18 Doughty Street
Posted by: Beau Bo D'Or in Uncategorized, tags: Images, PoliticsGuido sometimes uses my images - not a problem. He’s given me good coverage (of what I want to say), is very complimentary and has offered to help in my ongoing dispute with the scumbags at EMAP and Zoo magazine.
Sometimes, however, he makes the (genuine) mistake of running the images from my server and, when I point the error out, he is quick to rectify the situation.
It happened again today but this time I thought a little fun was in order rather than the usual heads-up email.
Because it was on my server, I could amend the image to whatever I liked :
Instead of a pic of David Milliband :

this appeared for about an hour :

Unfortunately, he spotted his error just before I had time to upload this :

Now, as I say on the masthead of my blog, I don’t mind folk using my images (non-commercially - Is that perfectly clear Zoo Magazine and EMAP ?) as long as a clear credit and link back to this blog appears and I don’t mind people running the images from my server.
The reason that Guido’s use of my server is a bit of a problem is purely the traffic his site has and the limitations of my hosting agreement. So, anyone still wanting to do this, no problem. This little adventure was a one-off. Don’t worry about images being changed in the future.
A final thing on EMAP and Zoo - Despite The Guardian, The Times, Channel 4 and numerous other traditional media, acknowledging that the compositions I put together are mine, Zoo is not prepared to do so unless I come up with extensive proof, which I can provide but I’m fucked if I’m going to do so.
Zoo and their agents have been slowing things down to a snail’s pace and, despite knowing the nature of the proof I intended to supply did not say this was not sufficient until after it was given to them.
Anthony Noguera (editor) and his posse decided to retire to their playpen and snigger away while I spent several weeks preparing the relevant information.
So, fuck Zoo and EMAP and any miserly compensation, I’m going to have some fun with them and their advertisers who provide prizes for those who send my images to them (if that is what really happens - I can show EMAP came to my site regularly immediately before the publication of the relevant images.)
As I’ve mentioned before, it is oddly contradictory that film studios such as Fox, Warner and Sony are prepared to offer inducements to individuals to breach other’s copyright - It has the makings of a good story.
I talked with Sony a while ago and they were very helpful.
This is going to go on for quite a while but I might as well enjoy myself rather than getting too uptight with the dickheads.
